Annie’s parents are profoundly deaf; one with no hearing at all and one with severe hearing loss. Their hearing impairment impacted their speech, and they were concerned that they could not model effective speech and sound formation for their daughter.
After six months in Prep, Annie mastered the English Phonetic Code, and all the other clue systems that form part of the ILR approach. By this time, she had attained Year 1 reading, comprehension, and writing levels. Her speaking and spelling choices demonstrated her understanding of and confidence in using the sounds of the English language.
Annie’s parents are delighted with the rate of their daughter’s progress and success. They are comforted in the knowledge that ILR is shaping their daughter’s language acquisition.
