Historically, in early reading, all high frequency words needed to be remembered by sight. These words often do not fit conventional spelling patterns and are difficult for early readers to decode. ILR uses the English Phonetic Code to code these words which reduces guess work.
This poster details The Rules and is placed on the wall for easy reference. This is the very first element and resource introduced to beginner readers.
